Seminar on Caliph Umar Farooq held at Lucknow

Lucknow: A seminar titled ‘Hazat Umar Farooq (RA) – An Exemplary Democratic Ruler’ was organized by United Muslim Organization (UMO) at Jai Shankar Prasad Hall here on Monday.

Presiding over the seminar, Maulana Khalid Rashid Farangi Mahali, patron of the UMO, said: “When Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) embraced Islam, at that time angel Gabriel came on earth and informed that the angels in the sky are congratulating each other as Hazrat Umar (RA) has embraced Islam. The system of Bait Ul Maal was systemized and the rule and regulations were made by him. The real concept of democracy was given by Hazrat Umar (RA).”

“There were many occasions when his opinions were upheld by revelations. He further said that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) had said that ‘Had there been any Prophet after me Umar would have been that person’. In fact the entry of Hazrat Umar (RA) in Islam was the victory of Islam and his migration to Madina was ‘Nusrat Ilahi’ and his caliphate was blessing of Allah. In the last, he said that if the teachings and the actions of Hazrat Umar (RA) are followed by the present day rulers it will be beneficial for the people at large, a release from Mohammad Khalid, secretary of UMO, said.

Professor Shakeel Samdani of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) who is also the president of United Muslim Organization, said the main purpose of organizing this seminar was to revive the concept of good governance and administration introduced by the second caliph of Islam Hazrat Umar (RA). “He was not only a renowned jurist of his time but also the most powerful and successful caliph. He ruled a vast territory of the world that is about 2.2 million square miles and established a true Islamic state. For the first time in history of Islam, he systemized Darul Qaza, Darul Iftah, established jails, strengthened the concept of treasury and enhanced the income of Bait Ul Maal,” Samdani said, adding, “He also fixed the salaries of army personal and also established a regular and strong military.

Dr Yaseen Ali Usmani, vice president, All India Milli Council, said that during the caliphate of Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA), the minorities were satisfied and they were protected by the Islamic State. He said that the qualities which are found in Hazrat Umar (RA) were all due to the teachings and the training of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Dr Anis Ansari, IAS (Rtd.) and Vice President of UMO, explained in detail the will of Hazrat Umar (RA) and said that the title Farooq was given to him because he always made a distinction between right and wrong. He also discussed Hazrat Umar (RA)’s fatwa regarding triple divorce and asked the ulema and distinguished scholars to give their opinion about this.

Professor Ramesh Dixit, renowned scholar and intellectual, opined that the principles established by Hazrat Umar (RA) are very important in the sense that although they were formulated in seventh century but were very important for the next generations. In his rule the minorities and majority both were satisfied. Everybody including the poor and the poorest of the people could easily meet him anytime. Everyone in his caliphate was also allowed to question his decisions and actions. His simplicity is an example for the rulers of the world and the history is unable to give any example of his simplicity, large heartedness and tolerance. He further said that Hazrat Umar’s caliphate was an ideal welfare state. He asked the gathering to translate his seerat and his work in different languages.

General Secretary of UMO, Tariq Siddiqui said that the caliphate of Hazrat Umar (RA) was based on sound democratic principles. Hazrat Umar (RA)’s government was really a government for the welfare of the people. He said that the concept of democracy has failed in Europe and America due to corruption.

Mohammad Khalid, secretary UMO, while conducting the seminar explained in detail the aims and objectives of the seminar and said that the main purpose of UMO is to improve the moral standard of Muslim society and struggle for the restoration of their rights. The rights which have been enshrined in the constitution of India should be restored to them. He said that the main aim of the seminar is to discover the reasons why the non-Muslims have praised the rule of Hazrat Umar (RA).

Anwar Jalalpuri, former chairman, UP Madrassa Board, said that the system of governance established by Hazrat Umar (RA) was based on the fear of Allah and that’s why the society during his tenure was better than the present society. He along with Qamar Sitapuri paid poetic tribute to Hazrat Umar (RA) which was praised by all.

In the last, a set of ‘Seeratun Nabi’ written by Allama Shibli Nomani was presented to various journalists of Urdu newspapers and the madarssas, the release added.
