There are many business people in this world who stand in front of me and who are very well capable to help the poor and the needy more than I can. Not only in GCC but also in Europe and America too. I’m here to pass on my word to public about the help that I made by giving buses for government schools, who are in need of the same,” these are the lines pinned on the Facebook wall of Dr KT Rabeeullah, the noted NRI businessman in Kerala and chairman of Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Group.

“It’s not for me to get a name or dignity in that but I think that this publicity will make the other high profile business people also to come forward to help the poor people. So I think that it is something good that I can do to them so that there will be many helping hands along with me to help many poor people who are suffering.
So I’m here to announce about the help what I’m giving to others and I’m sure that if we can help them there won’t be any poverty and we can see smile in everyone’s face,” the post continues.

This is in reference with a novel mission, being taken up by a group of NRI businessmen in the state to help the government educational institutions. The group of 14 NRI businessmen has expressed their interest to help the schools along with their students meet their traveling requirements. Led by Dr K T Rabeeullah the businessmen will contribute Rs 5 crore to purchase vehicles for various government educational institutions in the state.

While it comes to development, whether it is infrastructural or educational, the expatriates in Kerala are keen to take part by extending financial assistance. The initiatives, being taken up in educational and health sectors, speak volumes about how the diaspora helped the state to get uplifted in terms of development.

Rabeeullah took up the challenge as per the request by P K Kunhalikutty, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader and Minister for Industries and Information Technology.

Rabeeullah, who has so far offered Rs 38.5 lakh towards the total amount, will request his fellow businessmen in the state to contribute their bit for the noble mission. “I have already offered Rs 38.5 lakh towards the fund for buying 45 buses for educational institutions. The amount is enough to buy three standard buses for three institutions. I have also nominated 14 other businessmen to join the cause and donate the same amount,” said Rabeeullah to a local daily.

As per the reports, Rabeeullah will ask his peers to contribute directly and through social media.

“If they all contribute their bit like I have done, it would be adequate to purchase 45 buses with all essential facilities. This will create a new culture of welfare activities, meant for the uplifting of our educational institutions, which are reeling under several inadequacies. Further, it is a recognition for our children for their meritorious performances in examinations and extra curriculum activities,” Rabeeullah said.

The schools will be selected as per the financial condition of the schools.

“While people like me can afford to send their children to schools in luxury vehicles, thousands of school going children from poor families are left to suffer as they are unable to meet their traveling requirements. Some of them are even dropping out of schools due to lack of transportation facility,” Rabeeullah said.

The mission, according to Rabeeullah, will help a few of students and will be followed by another group.

The amount, offered by Dr KT Rabeeullah was handed over to P K Kunjalikkutty at a function, held in Thiruvananthapuram on April 30.
