Kathmandu : The victims of a massive earthquake that devastated Nepal on April 25 have started to rebuild their damaged homes on their own, media reported on Friday.
According to sources, they are now busy making shelter and other necessary arrangements rather than just waiting for relief and compensation from the government to arrive, Kantipur News reported.
Uttar Bahadur Gurung of Gogane village in Makwanpur district started to rebuild his demolished house from Monday. He did not receive a single tent from the government and was living with his 14-member family in a temporary shelter.
We have started to rebuild our houses as we would not be able build them and other structures during the monsoon season, which is arriving soon, Gurung said.
Village Development Committee (VDC) secretary of Gogane, Rajendra Shrestha, said the locals are not yet assured about getting tents and other relief materials from the government anytime soon, while even the tents that have been provided to some families in the village are not fit for the rainy season.
