New Delhi: The AAP on Wednesday condemned the RSS and the VHP for their “demeaning” remarks on Vice President Hamid Ansari, who pitched for “affirmative action” for Muslims in India.
“The demeaning remark made by the Rastriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) against Hamid Ansari is a sad development for democratic norms. The comments made by the right-wing hardliners amounts to mockery of the Constitution,” Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh said in a statement.
Ansari, while inaugurating a meeting of the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat on Monday, said the state needed to correct the deprivation, exclusion and discrimination faced by Muslims.
Criticising Ansari, the VHP asked him to apologise or resign from his post.
“The RSS and the VHP attempted to ridicule the Constitution by attacking the vice president. This is direct interference of these hardline groups in the political process and should be condemned by one and all,” the AAP leader said.
