A small group of journalists have come together for a campaign which is to bring back the dignity and livelihood of those persons who have been falsely implicated in terror cases, and because of the same they had to spent their major chunk of life behind the bars.
The campaign, which is launched as a crowdfunding program aims at the times when reporting about innocent Muslim people does not bring them their life back. The campaign reads, “When we, as journalists, covered their stories, we almost took it for granted that the worst is over for them. After all, they were out of the dungeons and back with their families and loved ones.”
Many a times a journalist, who have worked on such terror cases, fails to look back at the life of the person which was devastated because he was wrongly framed in terror cases. As the campaign also reads, “Our job as journalists is to keep looking for a new story but rarely do we get time to go back to the subject of an old story.”
The crowdfunding project supports four acquittals Rehmaana Siddiqui, Mohammad Irshad Ali, Mohammad Aamir Khan and Wasif Haider who are in need of different amount of money to kickstart their idle life.
Rehmaana Siddiqui was arrested in the 2000 Red Fort attack case. Media got a surprizing USP to sell the news – a women Jihadi. Rehmaana spent five years in the jail which also resulted into a prolonged spine problem to her. After police failed to prove any of its charges framed at Rehmaana, she was acquitted and fighting hard since then to live his life with an injured spine and hurtful back. She is planning to start a community kitchen for students of Jamia Millia Islamia, but as she can no longer do jobs or work which require standing, Rehmaana is also looking towards financial aid for treatment of her spine. The treatment and community kitchen program is going to cost her a huge amount, but the crowdfunding project ‘Support the innocent’ is going to help her in the same.
Mohammad Irshad Ali was a police informer and a taxi driver but was implicated and arrested in terror case when he refused to comply to wrongful needs of the police. Irshad’s son dropped out of school due to money crisis and Irshad himself is trying to make his path correct as a taxi driver after being acquitted.
Story of Wasif Haider is same where he was a well working exceutive in a Multi National Company before getting arrested in a terror case. After being acquitted, he is fighting hard to get a job so he is planning to start a small scale business. Mohammad Amir Khan is also one of the four acquittals who will get benefit from this campaign. Coming out as a voice for those who get implicated in such false terror cases, Amir Khan is still planning to send her 3-year-old daughter to school.
To all the four persons, ‘Support the innocent’ campaign is aiming to provide financial help through crowdfunding. The money raised by here will be divided equally among the beneficiaries and transferred into their accounts.
We encourage people to donate the money to this fundraising campaign as it will be used to bring back normalcy in life of four innocent individuals.
