Central Waqf Board suspends Shab-e-Barat gatherings for COVID19

In keeping with social distancing measures to contain the spread of COVID19, Central Waqf Board has issued a statement ahead of the occasion of Shab-e-Barat on April 8 to follow a suspension of congregational prayer and visit to the graveyards or dargahs.

Central Waqf Board, the national Muslim statutory body, has addressed this central advisory to all state Waqf Boards, and requested cooperation for strictly following guidelines for isolation practices in all states and UTs. Shab-e-Barat is the Muslim auspicious annual night when worshippers aggregate in Masjids and graveyards for overnight prayers in memory of the deceased.

Secretary Dr S.A.S Naqvi has, in the statement has asked all State/UT Waqf Boards’ help to break the COVID infection cycle by maintaining closure of religious shrines, graveyards and masjids in their respective cities and towns by issuing specifics and directives to the management of mosques and graveyards under their jurisdiction.

The statement from Muslim statutory body, in its end note, maintains that the advisory must be followed scrupulously with cooperation from the authorities to further maintain the 21 days national lockdown.
