Bhopal : Security at a college in Indore was upped after it received a terror threat letter even as the Madhya Pradesh police Monday said there was no need for panic and it was most likely a hoax.
Gujarati Science College principal O.P. Joshi received a letter, purportedly sent by ‘Indian Mujahiddeen’, threatening to blow up the institution, leading to panic.
Joshi informed the police and handed over the letter.
“We have seen the letter and it appears to be a mischief. There is no real threat perception in it. However, the security has been increased,” Inspector General of Police (Indore range) Anil Kumar told IANS.
‘Indian Mujahiddeen’ is the organisation that claimed responsibility for several terror attacks recently, including the serial bombings in Ahmedabad July 26.
Indore has been in the news for its links with the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
The Madhya Pradesh police arrested about 50 SIMI activists from Indore and its neighbouring areas including Dhar and Ujjain during a crackdown in March this year.
They included several alleged terrorist trainers including the outfit’s Madhya Pradesh head Safdar Nagori.
