Chandigarh : The Haryana government will launch a scheme this year to give plots, measuring 100 square yards, to families belonging to the backward classes, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said Tuesday.
Hooda said the scheme will be launched Nov 14, the birth anniversary of first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru.
He was addressing hundreds of members of the backward classes who had come to meet him here at his residence Tuesday. Some of them even came on camel-back.
He said that the scheme would be implemented on similar pattern as in case of families belonging to the Scheduled Castes. The announcement will benefit families from 71 castes of Backward Classes in Haryana.
Hooda also announced that a monthly scholarship scheme for backward class students would also be launched Nov 14. Nearly 150,000 students will benefit from the scheme.
Under this scheme, girl students studying from class 1 to 5 would be given a monthly scholarship of Rs.150 and boys will get Rs.75. Girl students from class 6 to 8 would be given Rs.200 and boys Rs.100.
Similarly, girl students studying from class 9 to 12 would be given a monthly scholarship of Rs.300 and boys Rs.150. In the science stream, girl students would be given Rs.400 and boys Rs.200.
