“The Singur issue can easily be solved through discussions. There is no need for Trinamool Congress chief to set up an agitation dais outside the Tata Nano plant,” Bose told reporters here.

“I have invited Banerjee over a thousand times to sit at the discussion table. But till now I have got no reply from her. It seems she is more interested in drawing public attention than to sort out the Singur problem,” Bose added.

To find a solution to the Singur issue, the Left Front may call for an all-party meeting Sep 2, West Bengal’s Public Works Minister Khiti Goswami told reporters Sunday evening here.

The Trinamool Congress-led indefinite siege in Singur that started Aug 24 has crippled Tata Motors’ bid to roll out the world’s cheapest car Nano from West Bengal, besides choking a key highway.

A total of 997.11 acres were acquired for the Tata Motors Nano project, of which 691.66 acres were given away by farmers willingly for a financial package.

Tata Motors took up the project to build the small car factory in Singur two years back. Since then there has been resistance from sections of the farmers and political parties over the farmland acquisition.
