The case has been registered against them at Mohali town, adjoining Chandigarh.

Besides Amarinder Singh, others named in the scam include former local bodies minister Jagjit Singh, former Amritsar Improvement Trust chairman Jugal Kishore Sharma, two officials of the improvement trust and two private builders.

Amarinder Singh and others are accused of favouring the private builders in allotting 32 acres of prime land in Amritsar city for a project during the Congress regime between 2002-07.

The land in question is worth Rs.360 million.

The accused have been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including forgery, fraud, misuse of office and conspiracy.

A house committee of the Punjab assembly last week found Amarinder Singh and others guilty in the land scam and recommended action against them.

The Punjab assembly Wednesday expelled Amarinder Singh from the house for the remaining three-and-a-half years term of the assembly.

The assembly had directed the vigilance bureau to register a case against Amarinder Singh and others and to submit its report within two months.
