Havana : The five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in United States for trying to thwart terrorism against the island are receiving Friday examples of solidarity from international organizations.
After 12 years of the unjust imprisonment of Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labanino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Gerardo Hernandez, several groups will start a campaign demanding their immediate release.
They were gathering information about terrorist plots by anti-Cuban organizations in Miami, Florida, in an effort to prevent the deaths of Cuban and even United States citizens.
In June 2008, the US Court of Appeals 11th Circuit in Atlanta upheld convictions of the Cuban Five, as they are universally known.
They are serving harsh sentences, including several life imprisonments.
The decision has been extensively repudiated worldwide, because the defense team proved the existence of anomalies in the initial trial.
The Venezuela-Cuba National Movement of Friendship and Mutual Solidarity announced it will join a crusade for the freedom of those fighters, also attended by the Ecuadorian Coordinator of Solidarity with the island.
