A Press Release of Popular Front, issued by its media secretary after the meeting, said the anti-social elements who have engineered these acts might have the ulterior motive of disturbing peace and creating panic among the citizens. Any attempts aimed at dividing the people must be defeated. There is no justification in killing and injuring innocent persons.

Popular Front shares the pain of the victims and bereaved families. It has urged an impartial investigation to find out the real culprits who are responsible for the incidents. But the minority community should not be targeted in the name of fighting terrorism, as happened previously on similar occasions, the release said.

Popular Front has also requested all sections of the society to remain united for maintaining peace and not to give ear to sensational stories spread by vested interests.

Meanwhile, the Popular Front has expressed its shock on the repeated attacks on Christian churches in various parts of Karnataka such as Mangalore, Davangare and Udupi by Sangh Parivar outfits. This is an open attack under BJP rule on the freedom of religious belief and practice. The police, instead of curbing the perpetuators of violence, acted as either mute spectator or promoter of Sangh Parivar’s violence. The Hindutva forces are trying to threaten minorities in Karnataka with state support as happened recently in Orissa. Popular Front has requested all sections of the society to raise their voice against these fascist brutalities and reminded that silence on such occasions amounts to supporting crime.

Popular Front chairman E. Abubacker presided over the meeting. K. M. Shareef, E. M. Abdul Rahiman and A. Saeed attended the meeting. ([email protected])
