Ukrainian parliament speaker declares resignation

Kiev : Ukrainian parliament speaker Arseniy Yatseniuk on Wednesday announced his resignation at the parliament’s meeting.

Yatseniuk said he had written a letter of resignation, which he would submit to the parliament’s regulations committee.

Yatseniuk quit the position due to the collapse of the ruling coalition which he officially announced on Tuesday.

“I have come here under the motto of democratic values and ideals. One should come to power with dignity and leave it with dignity,” Yatseniuk said, adding he would act as speaker until the committee accepts his resignation.

Yatseniuk was elected as Ukrainian parliament speaker on Nov. 5,2007.
