London : Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand, who had already been booked for dissent, will escape disciplinary actions by the Football Association (FA) for shouting angrily against the referee following his team’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea. But still the England defender will be penalised $47,000 by his club for his seventh booking.
Referee Mike Riley didn’t report any “extraordinary events” to the FA and the penalty imposed by the FA is the only official sanction to be imposed on Ferdinand after Monday’s heated match.
United coach Alex Ferguson had to march on to the pitch after the final whistle to cool down his players and their goalscorer Ji-Sung Park felt Riley treated them harshly.
Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari said that United players didn’t respect the referee.
