Asked what message he would convey to the new Pakistani President Zardari during his first meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York tomorrow, Singh said it would not be proper for him to say anything before the commencement of the talks.

Singh, however, said India and Pakistan faced “enormous challenges.” “We have to convert these challenges into opportunities and see how peace can be brought and how we can work together,” he said.

Singh referred to rising cross-border terrorism which has to be addressed by Pakistan.

“We welcome the advent of democracy in Pakistan. We are looking forward to working with them and how we can work together,” he said.

He denied to be drawn into a discussion on the role of Pakistan’s ISI in the bombing of the Indian Embassy in the Afghan capital Kabul saying he will address the issue later.
