New York : Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari called for finalization of the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project.
The two presidents agreed that India could join the finalization of the IPI gas deal project, which is known as the Peace Pipeline if it so desires.
The meeting took place Wednesday on the sidelines of the 63rd meet of the UN General Assembly in New York where Ahmadinejad called for further Tehran-Islamabad cooperation.
Ahmadinejad said: “Iran welcomes any offer to strengthen the two countries’ cooperation.”
“Pakistan’s successes are those of Iran and vice versa,” he added.
He expressed his condolences to Zardari over the demise of the former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto and hoped glory for the Pakistani nation.
Referring to Iran-Pakistan long-lasting cultural and historical commonalties, Zardari said that the two countries can bring success for each other.
He called for bolstering of Iran-Pakistan economic cooperation as well as making joint investments.
