Mashhad, Khorassan Razavi Prov : Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi on Thursday urged Muslims to maintain vigilance to thwart the US and global arrogance conspiracies at regional and international scenes.
"The global arrogance, led by the US, intends to destroy culture of the Islamic nations in line with its ominous goals," he said.
He added, "They wish to cause a change in typical structures and norms of the Islamic nations through information and communications technology (ICT) and military means.
"A change in cultural, spiritual and intellectual attitude of the Islamic nations is the target of conspiracies of arrogant powers." He said that four important events including victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran (in 1979), collapse of the former Soviet Union, military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan by the US and Britain and fundamental achievements in ICT will determine the fate of international crises during the next decades.
"Impacts of victory of the Islamic Revolution on international equations are emerging under circumstances that the Muslim world has been turned into an international power against arrogance and enemies," he stated.
Rahim Safavi added, "This important power backed by great cultural and economic background of the Muslim world and the Islamic states is regarded as a threat to the US, the West and other arrogant powers."
He said consensus of 57 states at the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) with 1.35 billion population is among very good capabilities of Muslim nations.
He noted that 70 percent of the world's known oil resources and 48 percent of gas reservoirs are located in Islamic states.
"Arrogant powers intend to cause strife between Muslims. They are not interested in turning the Muslim world into an international power," the IRGC commander said.
He stressed the importance of reinforcing unity between Islamic nations, preventing discord and making use of their various cultural, economic, political and defense advantages.
"The Islamic countries' move towards establishment of regional and international unions and pacts based on joint political, economic and security interests can be raised as an important point of view to turn the Muslim world into an international power through the next 50 years."
He further said, "Despite the high military costs, the US and Britain achieved neither of their goals behind military occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.
"The US intended to turn Iraq into a field for establishment of the Greater Middle East. It spent 400 billion dollars but could not achieve its goal."
"Iraq is gradually becoming another Vietnam for the US.
