Thai gov’t may move ASEAN Summit to Chiang Mai

Bangkok : Thailand is ready to host the 14th ASEAN Summit in December but is considering whether to move the venue to Chiang Mai, according local newspaper The Nation’s website.

A Thai Foreign Ministry source was quoted as saying that the foreign ministry was informed by the government that the meeting venue may have to move to Chiang Mai.

Thai Foreign Ministry officials already traveled to Chiang Maito check the venue. The ASEAN member states will be informed of Thai government’s decision next week,” the source said.

The summit was initially planned to be held at Centara Grand Hotel in Bangkok from December 14 to 18.

However the political tensions particularly anti-government protest which has occupied the Government for months have forced the government to reconsider the plan.
