North Korean President meets Egyptian counterpart

Cairo : Visiting North Korean President Kim Jong Il has called on President Hosni Mubarak and discussed issues of mutual concern and bilateral relations.

Egyptian presidential spokesman, Ambassador Sulaiman Awwad said Mubarak emphasized that his country has not forgotten North Korea's support during the Egyptian war in October 1973.

The Egyptian president briefed the Korean leader on current developments in the Middle East, including the situation in Darfur, Lebanon, the Palestinian occupied territories, Iraq and Somalia, Awwad added.

The Egyptian leader was briefed by Kim on progress of the nuclear issue and the six-party talks and developments in North Korea.

The spokesman said Mubarak expressed appreciation during the talks and his country's hope in boosting bilateral cooperation with North Korea.
