Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal asked senior officers to meet market associations and ensure proper security arrangements in all markets and crowded places during the Diwali festival season.

The officers would check security arrangements in each market and ensure intensive patrolling besides increasing the presence of force and ensuring announcements for public awareness though the public address system.

“Besides the regular force of police stations, extra force of 34 companies have been pressed into service,” Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

Delhi has been under high security since the Sep 13 serial bomb blasts, which killed 26 people and injured more than 100.

Meanwhile, the market welfare association of the Gaffar Market at Karol Bagh – one of the targets of the Sep 13 blasts – Saturday installed 16 CCTV cameras.

“They need to be praised as they installed the system within such a short span of time just before Diwali. They have set an example others should follow,” a senior police officer said.
