Baghdad : The Multi-National Force (MNF) operation on a Syrian border area Sunday was aimed against terrorist elements there, said the Iraqi government Monday.
Spokesman Ali Al-Dabbag told the press that the government was in contact with the US army in order to ascertain the details behind this operation, adding that the attack against Boukamal town, 8 kilometres into Syria, was aimed against terrorist entities which posed a threat to Iraq.
Iraq called on Syria to track down these groups and hand their members to Iraqi authorities, stated Al-Dabbag.
Meanwhile, the MNF did not reveal any details about the operation to the public.
Media advisor at the MNF, Meqdad Jebril told KUNA that details would be released soon.
