Baghdad : The handover of the security dossier of the Wasit province has taken place here to make it the 13th province to return to Iraqi control.
There was no curfew coinciding with the ceremony Wednesday, which was the norm for such occasions. However, some precautionary measures like checkpoints were seen.
Wasit is the 13th province out of 18 under MNF management to be restored to Iraqi government control before the end of 2008.
Wasit shares east borders with Iran, and Baghdad from the north.
The area saw the arrest of four armed Iranians and killing of a fifth over the past few days.
