Kolkata : A district court Saturday remanded 11 trainee teachers to ten days jail custody for attacking West Bengal Education Minister Parth De’s car.
According to the court verdict: “Eleven Primary Teachers Training Institutes (PTTI) trainees have been found guilty of pelting stones at De’s car Friday evening at Bishnupur. Hence they have been remanded to 10-day jail custody. They will be produced to the court again on Nov 19.”
At least 100 PTTI students blocked the road at Bishnupur and stopped De’s car who was on his way to attend a state convention.
The trainees were protesting against the state government’s alleged inaction in restoring recognition to PTTI.
“At least 100 PTTI trainees stopped De’s car at Bishnupur and threw stones at the vehicle Friday evening. Though the minister was unhurt, the windscreen and window panes of the car were broken. Police arrested 11 protesters Friday,” said District Police Superintendent Vishal Garg.
