Second phase of I-League to start from Jan 23

New Delhi : The second phase of I-League football will start from Jan 23 with a double header in Mumbai and Ludhiana.

In the 12th round’s double header, Mumbai FC will host Mohun Bagan at the Cooperage while in Ludhiana hosts JCT will face defending champions Dempo. The I-League committee that met here Wednesday, finalised the dates till the 20th round. The last two rounds will get over by the second week of April.

The committee, which was headed by All India Football Federation (AIFF) secretary Alberto Colaco, also decided that the Federation Cup will be shifted to Kolkata from Delhi. But the decision will be ratified by AIFF’s executive committee Nov 22.

“The decision has to be ratified by the executive committee. But we are confident of hosting it,” Indian Football Association (IFA) secretary Utpal Ganguly, also a I-League committee member, told IANS.

It was also decided that national camp will be held from Jan 2-10 and the team will play an international friendly Jan 14.

The committee also allowed East Bengal to get a replacement for its injured Brazilian striker Edmilson Marques.
