A division bench headed by Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S. Muralidhar asked the government to file its reply and posted the matter to Jan 7, for further hearing.

Social Jurist, an NGO, has filed a public interest petition seeking direction from the court to reimburse the cost of books and uniforms to the EWS students.

The petitioner stated that as per the Delhi government rules framed in 2006, the private schools would reserve 15 percent seats for EWS students and the government would reimburse the cost of books and uniforms to them but the rule has not been implemented.

The state government is expected to pay Rs.1,000 per child annually to such schools which would then provide books and uniforms to the needy students.
