Kuala Lumpur : Former US president Bill Clinton will make his first trip to Malaysia in December to deliver the inaugural B.C. Sekhar memorial lecture, named after the ethnic Indian who was a renowned rubber technologist.
It was not clear if Hillary Clinton would be coming, The Star newspaper said, adding that the senator would be busy after the election of fellow-Democrat Barack Obama in the US presidential election.
The lecture on Dec 6 would be open to the public, not just politicians and business leaders, said Sekhar’s son Vinod Sekhar, who heads the Petra Group industrial/business venture.
“We want to give everyone the opportunity. Clinton is a visionary leader and an inspiration to millions,” Vinod said Wednesday.
Clinton, who will be in Kuala Lumpur immediately after the Clinton Global Initiative meeting in Hong Kong, will also be awarded the B.C. Sekhar Medal for Transformational Leadership.
Clinton said in a statement that he was honoured to visit Malaysia for the first time and looked forward to meeting Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
