Mumbai : “I don’t know what was happening,” an unidentified woman, who was among some 50 people, mainly foreigners, who were escorted out of the Oberoi-Trident hotel here Friday after being confined to their rooms for more than 36 hours.
The entire group was taken in a bus to the trauma centre of the Bombay Hospital for precautionary tests.
The Oberoi-Trident was one of the three buildings that terrorists stormed into Wednesday night in a series of coordinated attacks at 13 locations in India’s commercial capital that have so far claimed 125 lives and injured 327.
Mopping up operations are underway at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel on the waterfront opposite the Gateway of India monument and at the Nariman House in Coloba, which is home to a Jewish religious and cultural centre.
No other foreigner, however, was willing to speak to journalists, in spite of the large number of camera crews who hounded them from the hotel to the waiting bus.
One of the foreigners, a man, was heard mumbling that the police had cautioned the group against speaking to the media.
“I don’t know what happened,” the woman repeated, adding: “They asked us to stay in our rooms. I heard blasting all over.”
“I don’t know what was happening,” she replied when asked whether she had witnessed the terrorists storming the hotel.
“I didn’t see anything. I only heard blasting,” she added.
