New Delhi : M.V. Krishna Rao, a 1974 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, Thursday took charge as the new director general of central paramilitary force, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
Rao succeeds Gopal Sharma, an IPS officer of 1972 batch, who retired Nov 30. Rao had earlier held several prominent assignments, including Police Commissioner of Hyderabad and director of the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy.
He has also served as additional director general of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
Rao was awarded Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 1991 and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 1998.
