Chennai : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed chargesheets against 31 people, including 19 police personnel, in a three-year-old case involving leakage of question papers during recruitment of constables. It also recommended departmental action against two senior officials.
The CBI recommended departmental action against two senior officials – Additional Director General of Police V. Balachandran and Inspector General of Police T. Radhakrishnan “for the lapses in the conduct of the examination members (accused officials) of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB)”.
“Our investigation revealed that media allegations regarding leakage of question papers for the written examination in general knowledge and psychology held on 27-3-2005 across 14 centres in Tamil Nadu and the question papers of the re-examinations held on 1-6-2005 were also leaked in certain centres,” the official said.
Significantly, the same day, according to an official press statement, the Tamil Nadu government appointed G. Sankaran as special government pleader (education) “after careful consideration of the Director General of Police and Chairman of the TNUSRB” vide letter D1/4317/2007 dated February 2 2008.
“(Sankaran would) appear on behalf of the government in all cases arising out of the recruitment of police personnel from the TNUSRB” the press statement said.
A.X. Alexander, former director general of police who had headed the department in 2005 and the present incumbent K.P. Jain refrained from comment.
