Agartala, Dec 19 (IANS) Tripura Friday announced a new economic-cum-rehabilitation package for civilians and security personnel who fall victim to militancy in the state.
“Under the new package, financial assistance ranging from Rs.10,000 to Rs.300,000 and a government job would be provided to the family members of those civilians and security personnel killed by militants or such personnel injured,” said Chief Minister Manik Sarkar.
Army troopers, paramilitary personnel, Special Police Officers (SPOs) and Home Guards deployed in Tripura would also be covered under the new scheme.
“Those people killed or injured in communal violence would also be covered by the new package, approved by the Left Front ministry earlier this week,” Sarkar told reporters here.
“The entire process of financial assistance and other benefits under the package to the victims would be completed within 60 days,” he added.
“The union government has also decided to revise the central economic package for the militancy victims and the proposal is now under scrutiny of the concerned state governments across the country,” Sarkar said.
Even though insurgency has declined in Tripura, as many as 340 civilians and 130 security personnel were killed by guerillas in the northeastern state since 2003.
“District level committees headed by the district magistrate and collector would be formed in all districts to look after claims related to the package,” the chief minister said.
The Tripura government’s previous economic package for militancy victims had limited provisions of financial assistance and other benefits.
