New Delhi : Sources of the Indian Defense Ministry said on Monday New Delhi has deployed Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), along its international border with Pakistan in the Western Sector comprising of Rajasthan and Gujarat states.
The significant development coincided with a recent statement by India’s External External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee that his country was “keeping all options open” vis-@-vis Pakistan.
Additional defense equipment have been provided to the Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel so as to keep a strict watch on air space along the border. Besides, security in and around air strips has also been tightened.
The ministry sources said additional hangars and runways have been prepared and all the radars have been put on high alert in areas like Jaisalmer, Uttarlai and Barmer (in Rajasthan) and Bhuj (in Gujarat).
The military movement on the border followed reports that Pakistan had reinforced its military forces stationed along the border with India.
According to a report published by the leading Indian daily, “The Times of India,” air commandos have been deployed to ward off any possible retaliatory attack, besides adjoining areas being “sanitized and the security situation reviewed.” “Sophisticated radars are installed at a few air bases and we are keeping watch on each and every cross-border activity,” the paper quoted an IAF personnel as saying.
