New Delhi: Prof Mushirul Hasan, Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has been appointed Officer of the Order of Academic Palms by the Prime Minister of France.
The Ministry of Education of the Republic of France awards these premier orders, called Palmes Academiques, to eminent personalities for their services in the field of culture and the arts. Prof Hasan has accepted the honor which is one of the oldest civil distinctions issued by the Government of France.
The Order was originally created by Napoleon in 1808 to honour eminent members of the University of France. Today the Academic Palms honors those who, like Prof Hasan, have rendered important services to French national education and contributed to the intellectual, scientific and artistic influence of France in the world.
Prof Mushirul Hasan has taught at the INALCO and Maison des Science de’l Homme in Paris.
