According to the police, Dr Rai took the money from a fellow Dr Rajender Sood assuring him that he would get the latter’s son enrolled in a medical college in Karnataka. But soon after getting the money two years back, he disappeared, changed his phone number and did not contact Dr Sood who later lodged a complaint. The police had since been looking for the Hindu Mahasabha leader.

Dr Sood agreed gave Rs 25 lakh seeing the influence of Mahasabha leader Dr Rai who had got Y category security from Bangalore Police. But his son did not get admission and Dr Rai snapped all contacts with Dr Sood.

Dr Sood filed a complaint in the Mandawli Police in East Delhi. Two years after the complaint the Delhi Police was able to catch the culprit on December 21 in East Delhi.

Dr Rai claims to be the general secretary of Karnataka Coconut Board also. The Police, however, have not provided details.
