Robbers loot Rs.1.4 million bank money in Chhattisgarh

Raipur : Two motorcycle-borne robbers allegedly looted Rs 1.4 million Monday in Chhattisgarh from an official of the State Bank of India (SBI) and shot dead a police guard, the police said.

The official, according to the police, was carrying the cash money to an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The robbers armed with a pistol fired upon constable Geetaram Rathore accompanying the official in Janjgir district when he tried to stop them. The injured constable was rushed to a hospital where he died of injuries, the police said.

Janjgir district police superintendent P.S.Bara said that the attack took place when the SBI official was taking the money from an SBI branch in Shakti area to an ATM centre located at the Shakti railway station premises.

Bara said all exit points of Janjgir district were sealed off and police stations alerted to arrest the robbers.
