His remarks come in the wake of several denunciations by United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) officials regarding Israeli attacks against duly identified UN facilities.

Three UNRWA-run schools have been hit by Israel, a large number of civilians have been killed, particularly in the third such aggression, and many more have been wounded, said Ban.

At least 30 people were killed and another 55 wounded in those incidents, according to UNRWA officials.

The UN Secretary General said to be waiting for total confirmation of what happened, and explained that these and another twenty such facilities serve as provisional shelter for more than 15,000 Palestinians who are homeless or are fleeing violence.

They have no other place to go and they cannot leave the Gaza Strip, he said.

Ban also referred to another incident in which seven UN workers were wounded, three of them seriously, along with three patients, victims of an Israeli attack against a building near a UN hospital.

The UN Chief expressed deep consternation for the attacks launched after Tel Aviv was warned that its operations were putting in danger UN building complexes used as shelters in Gaza.

“These attacks are absolutely unacceptable and cannot happen again,” he stressed, while calling on Israel again to immediately cease fire in the Gaza Strip.
