The runway visibility at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport was noted to be less than 25 meters at 9.00 a.m.

“Since the visibility is less than the 50 meters requirement for flight take off and landing operations, none of the flights are landing or taking off,” an airport official told IANS.

“We are waiting, it’s all in nature’s hand. Perhaps the fog will lift as the day proceeds,” the official said.

Before 8 a.m. all operations were fine but a “sudden fog cover” set in, he added.

Many trains from northeast, Jammu, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Punjab were also delayed for hours.

The minimum temperature fell to five degrees Celsius in the morning and the maximum was 21.2 degrees Celsius. Humidity was 92 percent.

The meteorological department has forecast that the minimum temperature will hover at eight degrees Celsius, while maximum would be around 20 degrees Celsius.

“There will be mainly clear skies, with some fog in the morning,” said an official of the Safdarjung met office.
