New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday said there was no doubt in the party or among its alliance partners that their prime ministerial candidate was L.K. Advani and the party “feels a sense of pride” when Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is praised.

BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley told reporters, “The prime ministership is not an issue in the BJP or NDA (National Democratic Alliance). There is no contradiction either since Modi stands behind Advani-ji like a rock.”

He was referring to statements by top industrialists Anil Ambani and Sunil Bharti Mittal in Gujarat Wednesday that Modi had the makings of a prime minister.

“In the BJP, we unequivocally feel a sense of pride when Modi’s governance is praised. Advani-ji himself hails Modi as an exponent of good governance,” Jaitley said.

When told that Modi has not spoken anything on this, the BJP leader said: “It is not necessary for him to speak.”
