Two policemen killed, one hurt in Madhya Pradesh accident

Bhopal : Two police personnel died and a senior police officer was injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck at the Agra-Mumbai National Highway, police said Friday.

The accident took place near Kalapahad village Thursday afternoon when the three men were returning from Bhopal to Guna district in Madhya Pradesh.

Guna district Superintendent of Police Niranjan Vayangankar had gone to Bhopal for a high level meeting.

“On their return, the Qualis they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck. Vayangankar got seriously injured while his driver Anil Bidua and gunman Uddhanak Tiwari died on the spot,” Inspector S.P. Saxena said.

“Vayangankar, who fell unconscious, was immediately flown to Indore under the supervision of civil surgeon C.D. Sharma and other senior doctors. He is undergoing treatment at the CHL Apollo Hospital,” he said.

Neurosurgeon Deepak Kulkarni said: “Vayangankar is suffering from diffused exonal sharing injury, also called ‘brain stem contusion’. He suffered brain injury and multiple fractures. He would be kept under observation at least for another three weeks.”

Kulkarni heads the team of doctors who are treating Vayangankar.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Guna Member of Parliament Laxman Singh have visited the injured police officer.

Chouhan said that Vayangankar’s condition remains serious and all efforts are being made to save his life.
