The theme of the annual Asian Security Conference, which was started by the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) in 1999, will be ‘The Changing Face of Conflict and Evolving Strategies in Asia’.

The conference brings together 16 eminent strategic experts from seven countries that includes, among others, Lawrence Freedman, Max Boot, Christine Fair, Hilal Khashan, Yuan Peng and Kazuto Suzuki.

“Given the uncertainty of the evolving security environment, marked as it is by underlying rivalries and unresolved territorial disputes and a host of non-traditional and transnational challenges, the strategy of key players in Asia in dealing with the multiple challenges facing them needs to be studied,” said N.K. Sisodia, the director-general of IDSA, India’s premier think tank, in a statement.

“The strategies of key players in Asia (China, India, Japan, Russia and the US) would be looked at, based on the understanding that the manner in which their strategies interact will fundamentally determine the issues of war and peace and contours of the international order in coming years,” he added.
