Dhaka : Three independent MPs have joined the ruling Awami League (AL) led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, swelling the treasury benches in parliament.
The party that swept the polls last December now has 232 members in a house of 300.
Kabirul Islam of Narail 1, Khandaker Abdul Baten of Tangail 6 and Muhammed Imajuddin Pramanik of Naogaon 4 changed their allegiance Sunday, the parliament secretariat announced.
Hasina vacated Bagerhat 1 and Rangpur 6 she won in December, while Zillur Rahman, now the country’s president, resigned his Kishoreganj 6 constituency for which by-elections will be held next month, New Age newspaper said Monday.
