UN human rights council meeting kicks off in Switzerland

Geneva, Switzerland : The 10th United Nations Human Rights Council meeting started on Monday to discuss the world human rights situation.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki is participating at the meeting which is to continue its work until March 27.

Later in the day, Mottaki is to address the meeting, briefing the audience on the Islamic Republic’s stand on the human rights issue.

The Zionist regime’s human rights record and its violation of human rights during Tel Aviv’s 22-day carnage in the Gaza Strip are also at the agenda of the meeting.

The UN Human Rights Council which has 47 members replaced the UN Human Rights Commission on March 15, 2006 with the vote of the UN General Assembly.

In addition to attending the council’s meeting, the Iranian minister is to take part in the Disarmament Conference on Tuesday and deliver a speech.

The disarmament conference is also being held in Geneva.

Mottaki is scheduled to hold separate meetings with his counterparts from various countries on the sidelines of the two meetings.

The foreign minister will then proceed to Serbia.
