“I am waiting for a reply from the Congress. I think it’s a courtesy to wait till they get back with the seat adjustment details,” Banerjee told a press conference at her south Kolkata residence.

She said: “Initially, during the discussions with state Congress president Pranab Mukherjee and the party’s all India general secretary in charge of the state K. Keshava Rao, there was talk of our party contesting in 28 seats, leaving the remaining 14 seats for the Congress. But nothing was finalised then.”

West Bengal has 42 Lok Sabha seats.

“The Congress asked for two days’ time to get the seat sharing agreement sanctioned by its party high command. But almost four days have gone. We’ve got no reply from them,” Banerjee added.

After a closed door meeting at a south Kolkata guest house March 1, Trinamool Congress and Congress decided to fight the Lok Sabha elections together in the state.

West Bengal will go to the polls April 30, May 7 and May 13.
