According to vigilance department sources, Ekka was interrogated for more than two hours and the officials asked him to produce proof of income against his properties.

Vigilance sleuths last month conducted searches at the residences of Ekka and Harianarayan Rai, also a former minister, and seized laptops, documents and money deposited in banks.

Rai is likely to be interrogated Friday.

On Nov 26, the department had filed first information reports (FIRs) against the two leaders on a vigilance court’s directives, charging them with swindling government funds, amassing wealth illegally and indulging in conspiracy.

The court direction came on a petition of Vinod Kumar, a resident of Deoghar district, who alleged that Ekka and Rai had amassed wealth more than their known sources of income after they became legislators and later ministers in 2005.
