Mumbai : Indian equities opened in the green Thursday and continued to trade in the positive territory for some 40 minutes. It subsequently lost ground, but only to regain ground an hour into trading, helping a key index get back in the positive zone.
The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) started the day on a positive note, opening at 9,023.04 points, against the previous day’s close at 8,976.68 points. But it fell to 8,974.05 thereafter.
Soon thereafter, the index regained ground and was ruling at 9.008.08 points, with a gain of 31.41 points, or 0.35 percent.
The S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also was ruling with a marginal gain at 2797.85 points, up 0.11 percent over the previous close.
Sterlite, Housing Development Finance Corp and Tata Consultancy led the gainers, while Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors and Bharat Heavy Electricals were among the top losers.
