Ghaziabad : Former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Neera Yadav Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here along with her husband former state minister Mahendra Singh Yadav and about 250 Samajwadi Party workers.
Neera Yadav joined the party at a rally in Vaishali here in the presence of BJP president Raj Nath Singh. Mahendra Singh Yadav, a former police officer, had earlier resigned from the BJP and joined the Samajwadi Party.
Neera Yadav, in her speech, said she had joined the BJP as she believed in the party’s policies.
A controversial 1971-batch officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Neera Yadav was the chief secretary from April 30, 2005, to October 6, 2005. She was removed from the top post after a Supreme Court directive as she was accused of corruption in the allotment of plots in Noida.
After that, she was appointed agriculture production commissioner. She took voluntary retirement after she was removed from the chairmanship of the IAS Association.
Mahendra Singh Yadav said that he had committed a mistake by joining the Samajwadi Party and was rectifying it by coming back to the BJP.
