New Delhi : The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Wednesday registered a complaint with the Election Commission against a Gujarat-based outfit, Sri Ram Sewa Samity, for issuing a communal appeal to voters.
The appeal was issued in Mehsana district of Gujarat, the CPI-M said.
“The appeal is to rouse Hindu sentiments alleging that the government led by the Congress party is challenging the very existence of Ram,” CPI-M politburo member Brinda Karat, who got a copy of the appeal during her recent Gujarat visit, said in the complaint.
“Although this is issued against the Congress, a party we are opposing, we believe that such appeals and propaganda based on falsifications polarise the electorate on communal lines and vitiate the political environment, thus going beyond party concerns,” she said.
She requested the Election Commission to take appropriate action against the Gujarat outfit.
