New Delhi : A city court Saturday remanded two Delhi Development Authority (DDA) officials in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody for seven days for their alleged involvement in a multimillion-rupee land scam.
According to CBI officials, DDA deputy director A.K. Mishra and assistant director J.R Gaur have been remanded in CBI custody for seven days after they were produced in the Tis Hazari court.
The counsel for the duo opposed the CBI request for custody, stating that they had been cooperating with the agency in investigations.
“The CBI had sought 10 days’ remand, but the court refused its plea and sent Mishra and Gaur in remand for seven days,” said the lawyer for the accused.
On Friday, the CBI had arrested the two after they failed to satisfactorily answer several questions.
The two are accused of involvement in irregularities in the allotment of land meant for rehabilitation of slum dwellers in the capital.
The matter had come to light when the CBI last month raided the north Delhi home of Ashok Malhotra, the alleged kingpin of the land scam.
Malhotra had been remanded in CBI custody for 14 days after he was arrested Aug 7.
Malhotra, known for his proximity to some key Delhi politicians, had allegedly made millions of rupees in association with five DDA officials and a private contractor by selling off plots meant for displaced slum-dwellers in northwest Delhi’s Dheerpur area.
The CBI had last month registered a case against the five DDA officers – deputy directors K.S. Verma and A.K. Mishra, assistant director J.R. Gaur and assistant engineers Shyam Babu and S.K. Sharma – for their alleged role in the scam.
