Ranchi : Maoists blasted a school building in Giridih district of Jharkhand as it was used as a makeshift camp by security forces, the police said Monday. No one was injured in the incident.
According to police, about 20 rebels blew up the school in Khukhra village of Giridih district late Sunday. Police believe that the building was targeted as it was used as a makeshift camp by security forces last week. The forces had carried out operations against the rebels ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Giridih goes to the polls April 23. The Maoists have called for a boycott of the elections.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of state’s 24 districts. Nearly 1,500 people have been killed in Maoist-related violence in the state in the last eight years.
