“The investigation conducted so far in the Jatav murder case indicated that Congress leaders had conspired to kill him, with the main culprit being Bhind district Congress vice president Tej Narayan Shukla who is now under arrest,” R.S. Ruhal, a police officer in Gohad, told IANS.

Jatav represented Gohad assembly constituency. He was April 13 evening shot from point blank range by four unidentified attackers near Chharetav village in Bhind, around 550 km from here.

He was returning after canvassing for Bhagirath Prasad, the Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Bhind.

The Congress has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the murder of the legislator.

“The police have in the past one week arrested five persons but the motive behind the murder is yet to be known,” Deputy Inspector General R.P. Sharma told IANS.

The police are preparing for the narco test of the arrested people and are likely to seek permission for this from a court Tuesday.
