“Earlier, the company had adopted a lion at the park. The duration of adoption for all animals is one year. Tata Indicom was the first private sector enterprise to adopt an animal at the park,” Van Vihar National Park director S.S. Rajput told IANS.

“This is for the first time that any white tiger has been adopted under the ongoing animal adoption scheme and also the first time two big cat community members have been adopted simultaneously,” Rajput said.

Tata Indicom has gone ahead with the adoption under its corporate social responsibility initiative.

A cheque of Rs.125,000 towards the adoption of white tiger Bhagat and Rs.50,000 for panther Trega for a period of one year was given to Van Vihar National Park Tuesday and, in return, the park management gave adoption certificates to Tata Indicom executives.

While Bhagat was brought to the Van Vihar National Park from Nandankanan Zoo (Orissa) April 22, Trega, was brought to the park from Sidhi district of the State in 1994 at the age of two years.

This is for the first time when a corporate sector organisation has adopted any park animal twice within a month and 11th occasion when any wild animal has been adopted since the scheme started this New Year’s eve.
